New York governor Andrew Cuomo announced his new plan to cut down on texting while driving…texting stops.
Existing Park-n-Ride facilities, rest stops and parking areas will be designated as places for drivers to pull over and send text messages. To start, there will be 91 locations, along with nearly 300 signs to notify drivers.
Today, one out of 5 accidents can be attributed to distracted driving. New York state saw a 365% increase in tickets issued for distracted driving during the summer of 2013 over the summer of 2012.
Cuomo said, “With this new effort, we are sending a clear message to drivers that there is no excuse to take your hands off the wheel and eyes off the road, because your text can wait until the next texting zone.”
